About Kalkan

Kalkan is well known for it good dining and has always been the way of life in Kalkan and continues today. In fact, Kalkan is said to have the highest number of restaurants and bars per inhabitant or square meter on the Turkish coast (over 100 of them!).

Additionally, Kalkan is especially renowned in Turkey for its numerous roof terrace restaurants and bars which offer a wonderful view of the town, sea and stars. It’s also nice to sit at one of the many fine harbour-side restaurants and watch the pleasure boats and fishermen leave early in the morning as you eat your breakfast, or see the fishing boats return with the day’s catch in the evening.

DAYTIME ACTIVITIES
The day-time activities of Kalkan are vasts, you can choose from swimming in one of their large and spacious Swimming Pools, Scuba Diving, Water Sports, Walking, Day Trips, Boat and Gulet Trips, and so many more (Please have a look our Tours and Services page by clicking here). If you choose to just relax and soak up the sunshine, just lay back and visit one of their beautiful sandy beaches like, Patara Beach or Kaputas Beach otherwise there is also the Kalkan Beach Club which has two sections to it, one being a walk in beach with small pebbles where you will find a large and long water slide, or on the other side a nice sophisticated Beach Club where you will find all the water sports needed. SHOPPING
If all is not enough you can always go shopping in Kalkan. There are plenty of shops in Kalkan, all of which open early in the day and stay open until at least midnight. And unlike other resort towns, shopping in Kalkan is completely hassle-free. An evening spent strolling about the winding streets and alleys while window shopping can be very rewarding as there are so many things to see and buy in the many specialty shops. You can find almost anything in Kalkan, from carpets to t-shirts and boxes of Turkish Delight and the traditional blue-coloured glass “evil eye” for warding off evil spirits. Gold and silver jewelry is a great buy in Turkey as it is sold by its weight. Lovely antiques, collected selectively from all over Turkey during the winter months, are very attractive as well. Other items include: intricately-decorated ceramics, hand-blown glass, hand-carved Meerschaum pipes and backgammon sets inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Enjoy shopping for excellent clothing. Several tailors are ready to make you made-to-measure clothing of excellent Turkish cloth. Affordable boutiques offer high fashion clothing, hand-knit articles and leather goods (for excellent prices). You can even buy that belly dancing costume you’ve always wanted. Beautiful Turkish kilims (hand-woven rugs) and carpets (traditional knotted rugs) are very beautiful and will last well over a century. Take your time to find the one which fits you perfectly. There is a vast number of types which come from many regions of Turkey with different styles and stories which your salesperson can describe to you in detail. If you can’t afford a carpet or kilim this time, there are also shops which offer lovely high-quality articles made of kilims, such as cushion covers, bags, purses, wallets and slippers. Prices in Kalkan are very affordable and shopkeepers are happy to accept your foreign currency.

Many hotels are now converting to Beautique Hotels, offering everything from Massages, Turkish Baths, Body treatments: like waxing, facials, pedicures and manicures and many more. There are various Hotel offering these services, they include The Asfiya Hotel situated on the Kalamar Road, Likya Residence & Spa, a brand new, still in construction at present, Amazing Hotel, on the edge of the mountain with views of Kalkan Bay and Kalkan Harbour, and Kulube, again, a wonderful hotel with its own facilities and Beach Club. What more can you ask for, you have everything you may possibly need for a relaxing and pampering day out, at your finger tips….
CHILDREN ACTIVITIES
Kalkan also offers lots of children facilities, including two playgrounds, baby sitting service (Kalkan Luxury will give you the Phone number if you wanted to enquire, you will be dealing with the Baby sitter directly, we are able to recommend but take no responsibilities for any accidents or miss ups, but we are able to recommend as used by ourselves) Children are also able to do most water sports, including trampoline, pedalos, Jet skiing, Snorkeling, Banana Rides, Doughnuts Rides and many more … There is also a fantastic Children Creche in the centre of town, but please enquire within for any rules and regulations as to usage of the creche. The best beach to take the kids to is Kalkan Beach, which has an Enormous Water slide on it, which the kids will enjoy all day long, and also offers other water sports, which adults and kids can take advantage of. Kids may also enjoy and evening in the Ice Cream parlour, where they do any kind of ice cream, crepes and many other puddings whilst overlooking the beautiful Kalkan Harbour and Pebbly beach. Again Kalkan offers everything, whatever you may want or need in Kalkan all you need to so is enquire and someone will help you and direct you in the right direction.
WEATHER
Kalkan has a Mediterranean climate with long hot summers and short mild winters. No accurate weather statistics for Kalkan are available as the nearest weather station is based in Antalya and Kalkan has its own micro climate created by its proximity to the sea and mountains. As a guide early Spring/Summer and late Summer/Autumn are the most comfortable times to visit with temperatures rising from around 20 degrees in early April, to the low 30’s in late June, and falling from the low 30’s in early September, to the mid 20’s in late October. July and August are the hottest months with average temperatures around the high 30’s and occasionally rising to over 40 degrees. Kalkan does not suffer from high humidity except for short spells of weather either in July or August when humidity levels can reach around 60%. In the low season months of November, December, March and April the weather is ideal for those looking for more active holidays walking and sightseeing or for the young and elderly. Temperatures are often a comfortable 15 to 19 degrees during the daytime falling to around 6 to 7 degrees at night. The sea remains warm enough into November and December for swimming although pool temperatures can be chilly. These months generally offer a good guarantee of some winter sunshine although the weather can not be guaranteed.
